The Classic Studio
Queen bed · 32 m². An ochre-walled chamber with a writing desk and a reading lamp.
A house of emerald & brass in the centre of Ibadan —
opened in October nineteen eighty-eight, run in the old manner, still.
Opened in Ibadan in October nineteen eighty-eight — named for the Aare Ọ̀nà Kakanfo, the field marshal of old Oyo — ours is a grand house in the old manner.
A marble lobby. A scarlet armchair. A brass chandelier that has not needed replacing. We put the same care into the suites that our grandparents put into their drawing rooms.
Ninety-five rooms. Five categories. Four dining rooms. A pool set in a courtyard of palms. A staff trained in the old manner — which is simply this: answer on the second ring.
Six categories, arranged in ascending order of quiet.

One bedroom, or two. A full kitchen. A living room with standing lamps.
Less a hotel room than a quiet small house on property — lent to you for a night, or a week, or a season. A butler on call. A terrace. Silence.
“The first hotel since the war that has felt entirely like itself. Brass where brass should be. Cotton where cotton should be. Nothing ironic. Nothing apologetic. A grand hotel, run seriously.”
Four dining rooms. A single kitchen. Yoruba first, world fluent, seasoned slowly.
