Chapitre I
The House

The title Aare Ona Kakanfo names the supreme field marshal of old Oyo — granted rarely, never inherited, held until death. A hotel that takes that title does not wear it lightly. Nor does it wear it loudly. It keeps it in its bones: in the marble at the entrance, in the turndown at eight, in the answer the concierge gives before you finish the question.

Maison Kakanfo opened its doors in October 1988 with forty-two rooms and a clear intention — to build, in Ibadan, a house worthy of the title on the door. Thirty-eight years on, ninety-five rooms, four halls, and a kitchen that can feed a summit of twelve hundred guests. Still the same intention.

A kitchen, a bar,
a good evening.

The restaurant runs on continental classics and Yoruba cuisine — breakfast at six, luncheon until three, dinner until eleven. The O Bar, our house bar since 1998, keeps later hours and a shorter temper.

The spa. The pool.

Lola Spa keeps a short, unhurried menu — massage, sauna, steam, by appointment. The pool is twenty-five metres and opens at six. Both are held to the same standard as the rest of the house. Both are reasons, for some guests, to come at all.
